Has Travis Kelce put Taylor Swift behind him? A lot of people are poring over the “evidence” after Kelce played a huge role in the Kansas City Chiefs‘ come-from-behind win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday — without Swift in attendance.
Sunday marked the second successive Chiefs game that Swift declined to attend, and it coincided with Kelce’s best performance of 2024 to date. The NFL‘s highest-paid tight end did a lot of damage, hauling in seven passes for 89 yards and ending the game as Kansas City‘s leading receiver after Rashee Rice went down with a knee injury. Given that Swift spends a lot of time in LA — and filmed her Eras Tour concert film there — it struck many as unusual at best that she wouldn’t be at SoFi Stadium to cheer on Kelce against the Chargers.
Swift’s camp clears the air
According to TMZ, there is no drama between Kelce and Swift, even though the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter last watched her three-time Super Bowl champion boyfriend play in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Her absence is being tied to her tour, which resumes Oct. 18 in Miami, and rehearsals for the final leg of the 149-show global showcase.
“Taylor is going back on tour in a couple weeks in Florida,” TMZ reported. “So it appears rehearsals may be contributing to her missing Travis’ recent games.”
Perhaps fortunately for Swift (and Kelce), the Chiefs’ next game is on Monday Night Football, an Oct. 7 showdown with the New Orleans Saints at Arrowhead Stadium. It remains to be seen whether Swift will attend, but the game will come in light of Kelce’s best performance of the season as he seeks to go from strength to strength against the 2-2 Saints.
The 4-0 Chiefs are off to their best start since 2020 and have won all four games this season by seven points or fewer. Kansas City has not started 5-0 since 2018 — quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ first season as a starter — and Swift might want to be at Arrowhead for such a significant contest.
