The Dallas Mavericks have failed to capitalize once again as their bittersweet run in the current NBA season continues. Facing off against the Miami Heat, the Mavericks failed to hold their nerves and suffered a 118-123 defeat with the game going into overtime. While there were significant contributions from the likes of Naji Marshall and Klay Thompson, it was not enough.
As a matter of fact, the Mavericks were missing the services of their star prospect, Luka Doncic. Picking up a wrist injury in their previous game, Doncic remained sidelined with a sprained right wrist. Speaking on their humbling loss, Mavericks’ Naji Marshall came up with his take on how much the absence of Doncic affected the team’s performance.
“Ultra superstar. In clutch situations, we would love to have him. That’s what he does best. We’re missing a whole lot, as a player in Luka Doncic. Hopefully my guy gets right and when he gets back, he can take over,” said Marshall.
Afterall, Marshall is pretty spot on with his reading. In the current season so far, Doncic has been averaging 28.1 points per game. He also has 7.6 assists and 7.6 rebounds to his name. Thus, putting on an impressive display, the team would surely want Doncic to be back soon. However, looking at his injury woes in recent times, it remains to be seen how fast can Doncic recover.
Luka Doncic’s Season Gets Plagued By Injury
Luka Doncic was expected to be on top flight this season. Unfortunately, things soon started to go north as injury began to plague his season. After missing a game due to a contusion in his knee, Doncic is once again sidelined due to a sprained wrist. This was an injury that he picked up while playing against the New Orleans Pelicans. Having had a blowout victory, Doncic looked in sublime form, too.
He dropped 26 points, along with five rebounds and five assists. Unfortunately, what looked like a small sprain has now caused Doncic significant discomfort. After re-evaluating his injury, Doncic is expected to miss at least one week of game time. Thus, with things looking a little tough for the Mavericks without Luka Doncic, the onus is now on the likes of Naji Marshall to see the team through.
