Caleb Williams’ rookie season with the Chicago Bears has been a challenging journey filled with ups and downs.
The young quarterback’s performance in recent games has drawn attention from football analysts and fans alike.

During a Monday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, Williams faced significant pressure, resulting in multiple sacks and visible signs of discomfort.

ESPN commentator Troy Aikman, a former NFL quarterback himself, offered insights into Williams’ situation. Aikman noted the toll that the difficult season seemed to be taking on the rookie, expressing concern about the potential impact on Williams’ confidence. This comes on the heels of reports that his teammates view him as a prima donna and don’t particularly like him and his corn-eating video going viral.

“I was 0-11 as a starter and he’s had a much better rookie season than I had,” the commentator said. “He was grimacing and in an enormous amount of pain. When you watch him, you can tell that he’s a defeated guy.”

Aikman didn’t stop there, though.

“What you worry about is a rookie quarterback losing confidence,” he continued.

Despite the tough circumstances, Aikman also pointed out that Williams has shown promise and resilience, comparing the young player’s experiences favorably to his own challenging rookie season.

Caleb Williams Needs Help

Part of the issue for Williams is that he faces significant challenges behind a struggling offensive line. With three games remaining in his debut season, Williams has been sacked frequently, potentially impacting his confidence and development.

The coaching staff must prioritize bolstering the offensive line to provide better protection for their young signal-caller. A more robust front would allow Williams to showcase his talents and grow as an NFL quarterback.

Defensively Chicago leaves a lot to be desired, too. The Bears are best middle-of-the-road on the side off the ball in terms of passing yards allowed, and at the bottom of the league when it comes to total defensive yards allowed.

Looking ahead to 2025, the Bears should focus on acquiring skilled offensive linemen and stronger defensive presences through free agency and the draft. This investment will be crucial for Williams’ success and the team’s overall progress.
