ESPN’s Adam Schefter offered confusing injury news about Kansas City Chiefs superstar wide receiver Rashee Rice, ahead of the team’s showdown with the New Orleans Saints on “Monday Night Football” at Arrowhead Stadium.

Rashee Rice left the Chiefs’ Week 4 road game against the Los Angeles Chargers after suffering what was initially believed to be a knee injury. It was also reported that Kansas City feared an ACL tear, which would have ended his season.

At 7:51 p.m. EST, Schefter reported that doctors are optimistic that Rice’s injury isn’t knee-related. Schefter added that Rice would undergo further evaluation on Tuesday, and that the recovery time may be “much shorter” than previously believed.

Six minutes later, however, Schefter sent a follow-up tweet stating that Rashee Rice is “unlikely” to play again this season, though the Chiefs will learn more tomorrow:

If he’s done for the season, that’s a tough development for the Chiefs, who are expected to be without fellow star receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown (shoulder) for the 2024 regular season.

The 24-year-old Rashee Rice is the Chiefs’ leading receiver through four weeks with 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Last season, he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven scores.

Chiefs Should Trade For A WR If Rashee Rice Is Out For Season

If Rice is indeed out for the season, Kansas City GM Brett Veach should be in the trade market for another receiver. The depth is thin behind Rice and rookie standout Xavier Worthy, and pending free agents like DeAndre Hopkins and Amari Cooper would make sense as possible trade targets.
