SUMMARY

The latest One Piece manga chapter has shed more light on Nico Robin’s backstory.
It is indeed one of the saddest character stories in the history of One Piece.
However, there is one more Straw Hat Pirate who has an even worse backstory than Nico Robin.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is known for a lot of things, but the one thing that helped the fans develop a connection with the characters is their backstories. Almost every character in One Piece has a past that was created by the mangaka to justify their actions and give an explanation of their motives and beliefs. And the biggest example of this is the Straw Hat Pirate.

Almost every member of the Straw Hat crew has had a sad past that made them determined toward their goal and motivated them to go on a journey with Luffy. Out of all the Straw Hat members, Robin might have one of the worst backstories, which was recently revealed in One Piece manga chapter 1133 when she met her childhood friend Saul.

However, there is one Straw Hat crewmate whose past might be even darker and more struggling than Robin’s. And this character is none other than Brook, the musician of the crew in One Piece. Brook’s past is darker than Robin’s solely because of the loneliness he had to struggle through for so many years.

One Piece sheds light on Robin’s past

The major details about Nico Robin’s past were already revealed in One Piece, but the latest chapter shed more light on it. As fans know, Robin was discarded by her own relatives, who were supposed to take care of her in the absence of her mother. Not only that, her Devil Fruit abilities freaked out other children, and their parents forced them to stay away from her, giving her nicknames like “Demon Child.”

However, this was not the toughest part of her life, as she was forced to leave her own home and spend the rest of her life on the run because of some controversial actions by her people that had nothing to do with her. Her life on the run was a particularly hard time for her, as almost everyone she met was trying to turn her to the World Government for the bounty on her head.

Not only that, her life became so bleak that she had to rummage through garbage for food and had to live in hiding, which once forced her to kill herself. This was probably the worst moment in her life, but she still got out of it and survived until she met her friends in the form of Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece.

Brook’s past might be worse than Robin’s

Although Nico Robin’s past is indeed filled with dark moments that would have been insufferable, especially for a kid, there is an argument that Brook’s past might be worse than that. It is entirely based on the solidarity he had to bear for more than fifty years that would have driven any normal person insane.

Brook lost almost all of his friends when he was alive and then had to live through the pain of it. However, even after he was revived with the help of his Devil Fruit, his pain only grew as he had to spend almost 50 years without any kind of human contact. The loneliness was struggling for him as he could not do anything about it.

Ultimately, the ship he was on drifted him close to Thriller Bark, where his shadow was stolen by Gecko Moria.

He had to spend the next five years trying to beat Ryuma and claim his shadow back until he met with Luffy and the rest of the crew. Therefore, his past was indeed the worst one in the history of One Piece
