Former Memphis Grizzlies point guard Derrick Rose has announced his retirement from the NBA. The 35-year-old announced the decision on social media on Thursday. This decision comes after years of battling knee injuries. In response to this news, Lakers star LeBron James, who played alongside Rose on the Cleveland Cavaliers, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute honoring his former teammate.

“Much love and respect Pooh!!! Salute,” LeBron wrote in the caption. In three more separate stories, LeBron added, “Forever”, “Immortalized”, and a GOAT emoji.

Derrick Rose announced his retirement on Instagram, thanking his supporters and looking back on his journey. He said, “You believed in me through the highs and lows, my constant when everything else seemed uncertain.

He took out full-page ads in major newspapers in the cities where he played to thank his fans. In an interview with ESPN, Rose explained his decision, saying, “Knowing that I gave my all to the game, I feel confident in my decision. Basketball was just the beginning for me. Now, it’s important that I give my all to my family — they deserve that.

Derrick Rose’s Basketball Journey

Derrick Rose’s professional basketball journey started with great promise. He was picked first overall by the Chicago Bulls in 2008 and quickly made an impact by winning the Rookie of the Year award.

His biggest achievement came in 2011 when he became the youngest player ever to win the NBA MVP award at just 22 years old, averaging 25 points and 7.7 assists per game. However, his career was halted due to many injuries, especially a serious ACL tear in 2012 that kept him out for an entire season and changed his career path.

Despite these challenges, Derrick Rose played for several teams, including the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Detroit Pistons. His last season with the Grizzlies saw him play only 24 games due to health problems. Throughout his career, he averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game.

LeBron James wasn’t the only one honoring Rose. Dwight Howard also wrote a heartfelt message, congratulating Rose on his career and praising his strength despite many injuries.

Former NFL star quarterback Brett Favre has taken a swipe at pop sensation Taylor Swift for political reasons ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

The 11-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro is known to be a supporter of former President Donald Trump and has previously endorsed him.

He’s since taken a shot at Swift, who recently endorsed Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris following Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes informing everyone that he wouldn’t endorse a candidate.

“Good take by Mahomes,” he wrote in a tweet.

“I see a lot of celebs trying to influence their audience instead of letting the people think for themselves. If the best choice for them ain’t clear and they’re easily swayed by their fav pop artist, it’s not going to be a good thing.”
