New Balance are set to go head-to-head with Nike in the WNBA as the professional women’s basketball league announces a multi-year deal with New Balance whilst Nike currently pay Caitlin Clark $28m.

Announcing the partnership, the pair aim to elevate women’s sports and inspire future generations by focusing on grassroots initiatives with the ambition of creating greater community interaction with the sport.

Whilst Colie Edison, the WNBA‘s chief growth officer, added, “The partnership with New Balance is yet another positive step in our efforts to grow women’s sports across new audiences, incentivise youth participation and positively influence communities.

“By aligning ourselves with a global brand like New Balance, we continue to push the envelope of what’s possible when we tap into the unifying power of sport.”

On New Balance’s end, they will be particularly accountable for broadcast, digital and retail content with Cameron Brink of the Los Angeles Sparks, a popular 2024 rookie who is becoming known for her tasteful sense of fashion in the sports world.

They had already signed Brink to a Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) contract when she was with the Stanford Cardinals back in August 2023 as she went on to become one of the highest earners in the college athlete scheme, and New Balance are keen to continue the relationship.

“This relationship with the WNBA is another example of New Balance encouraging all young athletes,” Jess Vassall, New Balance’s head of global partnerships said in a press release. “Particularly women and girls, to pursue their athletic goals and ignite a new era of female empowerment through sport.”
