New WNBA forward Cameron Brink has admitted that she benefits from being a white player in the league.
While she’s not Caitlin Clark level, Brink is already quite popular, having followed the Indiana Fever guard as the No. 2 overall pick this year.
Kim Kardashian wasted no time snatching her up to make her the face of the former’s SKIMS brand following the league announcing it as its official underwear partner this season.
Meanwhile, the former Stanford star has spoken to UPROXX in a recent interview and admitted that there are benefits to being a young, white player in the WNBA.
“I will acknowledge there’s a privilege for the younger white players of the league,” she said. “That’s not always true, but there is a privilege that we have inherently, and the privilege of appearing feminine. Some of my teammates are more masculine. Some of my teammates go by they/them pronouns. I want to bring more acceptance to that and not just have people support us because of the way that we look.
“I know I can feed into that because I like to dress femininely, but that’s just me. I want everyone to be accepted — not just paid attention to because of how they look.”
Fans Are Loving What Cameron Brink Had To Say
“It’s easy to see why Cam, Paige, HVL etc. are able to understand their privilege as young white women in a black dominated sport,” one wrote. “They interact with black people, are open minded, and see the world for what it is. We’ll always embrace them cause they embrace us. Good on her.”
