Despite having only over 50 manga chapters, Kagurabachi is acclaimed to be a “next-generation” hit along with Dandadan and Sakamoto Days. Undoubtedly, Hokazono’s manga has become a rising star in the manga world, captivating several readers with its dark-themed narrative.

Amid the buzz around its anime adaptation, fans fear the series could face a doomed fate like the original Fullmetal Alchemist, which fell short of expectations.

Kagurabachi Faces a Risky Future Ahead of Its Anime Debut

Kagurabachi features the story of Chihiro Rokuhira who seeks to join the Kamunabi. Owing to its immense success, fans are claiming it to be a potential successor to Jujutsu Kaisen as the famous manga series follows a similar concept to Gege Akutami‘s Jujutsu Kaisen‘s curse energy.

The anime adaptation, produced by Shochiku and CyberAgent, will be animated by Cygames Pictures, the studio behind critically acclaimed titles like Uma Musume and Brave Bang Bravern!

While Kagurabachi has quickly risen to fame in the manga world, fans fear that rushing its anime adaptation could jeopardize its potential legacy. It’s already common for many famous manga to receive an anime adaptation, only for anime to ruin its reputation.

We have already seen this with the original Fullmetal Alchemist and Kagurabachi seems to be heading the same path.

Kagurabachi is one of the most anticipated anime adaptations this decade; the series surpassed one million copies in circulation in just four volumes, which highlights its immense popularity among the fandom.

Though no release date or streaming details have been announced, the choice to collaborate with Cygames instead of larger studios like MAPPA or Bones has left fans skeptical.

Hokazono’s series has a dark theme with revenge at its heart featuring Chihiro’s traumatic past, making it stand out from the rest. In an interview, the mangaka revealed his intentions behind Kagurabachi‘s dark-themed narrative. He said:

I also want to emphasize the protagonist’s conflicts, such as what it means to live and what it means to die. In Kagurabachi, I thought I could create a flowing picture with longer fins than that of a carp, so I introduced a goldfish. As a child, I improved my drawing as I tried to draw dinosaurs better than my father and brother.
