After a stellar 17-season NBA career, veteran Derrick Rose has officially announced his retirement following his release by the Memphis Grizzlies. While the latter part of his career may not have gained much attention, Rose’s early career with the Chicago Bulls remains a defining chapter in his NBA career.

During the Dallas Mavericks’ media day, Mavericks star Kyrie Irving shared his admiration for Rose. The Mavericks star detailed how much Rose impacted him as a young player.

There’s so many different things I admire and respect about that guy. When I was 19, getting ready for the draft, I remember watching him… It was probably the first time I had told myself that I wasn’t as quick as somebody on the court or wasn’t as explosive,” Irving said.

I don’t think we’ll ever see something like that again in that framework or frame of body. He made us all get better,” he added.

Desmond Bane Reflects on Derrick Rose’s Retirement

Derrick Rose played just one season with the Grizzlies, but during this time he made a strong bond with his Grizzlies mates. Following his retirement, Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane expressed his feelings during the Grizzlies’ media day on Monday, sharing how much Rose meant to the team.

We’re gonna miss him. He’ll be around. He’s sticking around Memphis, so I’m happy for him. Super proud of him. But, yeah, I’m excited to see him and still be able to pick his ear here and there,” Bane said.

During his lone season with the Grizzlies, which turned out to be the final season of his career, Rose played in just 24 games. He averaged 16.6 minutes per game, contributing 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily have had to evacuate their home this week because of Hurricane Helene.

The hurricane hit northern Florida pretty hard, causing major flooding and power loss.

Mayfield, his wife Emily, their daughter, and their dog left their residence before the storm hit as a means of caution. Emily furnished her followers with an update on Friday.

“Baker, Koko, Fergus and I evacuated yesterday and are safe,” she said via Instagram. “Our sweet, sweet community got pummeled, but even that doesn’t compare to the people up North who took this storm head on. It’s unfathomable.”

Emily is grateful that Helene did not affect the Mayfield home but revealed she was “praying nonstop” for the people dealing with the impact while also offering tangible assistance.

“I am looking for ways to get out and tangibly help,” she added. “Please send me anything you find, and I will share the good ones.”
