This upcoming Sunday could truly be the breaking point for the Dallas Cowboys. At 3-4 and coming off of another loss to an NFC contender, Mike McCarthy‘s squad needs a win to essentially keep their season alive. Another loss to an NFC team, this time the Atlanta Falcons, would put the team in a precarious position that they likely wouldn’t be able to climb out of.
While players like Dak Prescott have drawn as much criticism from Cowboys fans as McCarthy has, the true scapegoat has been Jerry Jones. The overbearing owner of the team, along with son Stephen Jones, didn’t do enough in the offseason to fortify the roster. That quickly became clear in Week 2 of this season, and it’s been exacerbated over the past few weeks as the team has dealt with injuries.
With the roster showing flaws, many would expect Jones to make some moves in order to strengthen the team and give it a chance for a playoff run. But as the November 5 trade deadline gets nearer, it’s looking more and more likely that the front office is going to sit on its hands.
Dallas Cowboys not expected to make any trade deadline moves
Before their loss to the San Francisco 49ers, GM Stephen Jones practically said they would make no moves because they have “a lot of good players” and the “salary cap is what it is“.

Just recently, a staff writer from popular Cowboys site Blogging The Boys spoke about those comments, and lit into the front office.
The unwillingness to put the Cowboys in the best position from a talent acquisition [standpoint] is mind-blowing, especially when the teams that are having great success are giving them the blueprint to prosper. No matter the situation, every team should be of the mindset that getting as many impactful players is the way to go. When it comes to the Cowboys, it’s simply doing just enough to get by, which is the worst way to go about putting a team together.
The Jones’ put themselves into this position by their lonesome. They waited until the last minute in the offseason to sign Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to big-money extensions. In the process, and with their decision beforehand, they allowed themselves no flexibility to improve the team if needed.
