The superhero pair appeared on Good Morning America on Monday, where they dished on the upcoming Marvel film.
The movie features Ryan, who plays Wade Wilson/Deadpool, teaming up with Hugh’s character, Logan/Wolverine, to defeat a common enemy.
During the interview, Ryan, 47, said he had dreamed of using one of Madonna’s songs in the franchise — specifically, Like A Prayer — since filming Deadpool 2.
He was able to score a meeting with Madonna to ask for permission to use the song, which left him more nervous than usual.
“That was a genuine, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to talk to Madonna,” The Proposal actor said.
He added that the Queen of Pop doesn’t normally license her songs out for film, especially her 1989 hit, Like a Prayer.
“I was so nervous, partly because it’s Madonna,” he admitted.
“I asked the person who was organizing, do I say Madonna? Do I bow? Is blinking insulting? Tell me what to do here as I go in.”
Ryan said the song had been in his head for six years and that he knew exactly where he wanted it in the new film.
“I went in on my back foot. I was so nervous that it would be a no, but Madonna was gracious,” he revealed.
Ryan added that not only was she completely receptive, but the Vogue hitmaker also gave him an idea for how the song could better fit into the scene.
“It ended up being a game changer,” Ryan said.
“Who knew, Madonna of all people would have a genius understanding of music and its application to pop culture?” he joked.

EXCLUSIVE CLIP GONE WRONG
The clip had the actors apologizing to viewers and GMA hosts Robin Roberts, 63, and George Stephanopoulos, 63.
The teaser showed Ryan’s character, Deadpool, joking with Hugh’s character, Wolverine, about having had “several STDs” in the past.
The scene was set in a diner, where Wolverine was seen rummaging through the refrigerator behind the counter.
The teaser clip ended with Wolverine punching the outside of the fridge door and yelling, “F**k!”

Ryan Reynolds
After it aired, Hugh immediately apologized with multiple “I’m sorry’s.”
Ryan also apologized as he joked, “This will be our final program, and we thank you for your allegiance and loyalty for all these years.”
Even Robin noted how early it was to see such a shocking clip, waving to the camera and adding, “Good morning, everyone!”
Along with Ryan and Hugh, Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, and Rob Delaney as Peter.
Some fans also think singer Taylor Swift, 34, could make a possible appearance as Lady Deadpool, as the main characters rocked friendship bracelets in one of the film’s promo shots.
Her fans have notoriously become known to rock the bracelets while attending her worldwide Eras Tour shows.
