Fever fans point out differences in Caitlin Clark’s treatment by the LPGA and WNBA (Image Source: Imagn)
Caitlin Clark’s LPGA debut is receiving tremendous support from multiple female golf stars. Brittany Lincicome was among those who appreciated Clark’s contributions toward popularizing basketball and women’s sports, and now, golf. Lincicome also said she hoped Clark would sign a basketball for her kids.
“What she has done for women’s sports and basketball and to have her at our golf tournament, I mean, I’m like in awe,” Liniccome said on Tuesday. “I’ve got a basketball and hoping she signs it for my girls … But how cool for her to come out and support us this week and only help grow women’s golf.”
Meanwhile, Andrea Lee, Lilia Vu, Megan Khang and Marina Alex all had glowing views about being around Caitlin Clark at the LPGA Tour’s ANNIKA driven Gainbridge pro-am event. Clark’s fans have always appreciated any love shown to her, but the comments from the golf athletes reminded them of how different the situation was in the WNBA.
Clark’s phenomenal rookie year was overshadowed by plenty of negativity around the league. Several players complained about her fanbase and the Fever faithful, claiming they had been subject to racism.
While it was crucial to address that, many media members and former players didn’t acknowledge Clark’s contributions to the league’s growth. It was no secret that viewership, ticket sales and merchandising sky-rocketed once Clark got drafted.
According to ESPN Press Room, the viewership was up 155% from the 2023 season on the channel’s broadcasts alone.
Clark and the Fever had 36 national TV games, the highest in the WNBA. She also helped set broadcast records for six different broadcasters — ESPN, CBS, ESPN2, Ion, ABC and NBA TV.
However, the criticism against her triggered a few fans and many of them pointed out the difference in treatment she received from LPGA stars.
“Am I the only one who gets both happy and pissed when they see comments like this? I really appreciate this post and how the LPGA is treating Caitlin,” a fan wrote.
“I am always happy when I see how great CC is off the court. The W prefers their woke agenda over developing their league,” another added.

LPGA’s turn to benefit from the Caitlin Clark effect
Caitlin Clark’s LPGA debut has ignited widespread interest in women’s golf. The Fever star’s appearance already pushed the broadcasters to extend their coverage. On top of that, according to Fever beat writer Scott Agness, the pro-am ticket sales are 1200% higher than last year because of Clark. The tickets are priced at $25.
Fans interested in seeing Clark in action at the pro-am can tune into Golf Channel. She’s already teed off at the time of writing. The event began at 7:00 am ET on Wednesday morning.
