Nami Has 1 Power Stronger Than Luffy’s Conqueror Haki: Eiichiro Oda Doesn’t Take One Piece Power Scaling Seriously, Here’s Why

One Piece fans might not know this, but Nami has a power that is much stronger than Conqueror Haki and it affects the power scaling of the series.

SUMMARY

Every One Piece fan knows that Conqueror’s Haki is the strongest ability in One Piece.
However, Nami has one secret power that is even powerful than Conqueror’s Haki.
This power was confirmed by Eiichiro Oda himself and it disrupts the power scaling of the series.

Out of all the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, it is safe to say that Luffy ranks as the strongest character, not only because he is their captain but also because his strength in terms of Haki and Devil Fruit is insane. However, there is one member of the crew in One Piece who has taken down Luffy multiple times and is not at all afraid of his frightening strength and abilities.

This character is none other than Nami, the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. Although Nami cannot contribute much to a real battle, she has a secret technique that, according to Eiichiro Oda, is a power capable of planetary destruction. It’s a comedically exaggerated attack that only works in certain conditions in One Piece but still is quite effective.

While Nami’s happiness punch is used by Oda for embedding humor in One Piece, it also in a way prompts that the manga creator does not take the power scaling of the series seriously. He might use it effectively during a battle or war, but its overall portrayal within the One Piece narrative is quite confusing for fans.

Eiichiro Oda compared Nami’s attack with Luffy

Nami’s happiness punch is a comedic technique that can instantly knock out other characters with nosebleeds. This technique requires Nami to drop her towel while she bathes and the only character who probably won’t get affected by this technique is Luffy. During the SBS Volume 74, Oda was asked about how strong the happiness punch is compared to Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki.

Oda stated:

Well let’s see, if we were to talk about these two using their techniques with their own bodies alone, Nami’s Happiness Punch would only work among “visible range”, so it would probably not be able to compete against Luffy’s haki.

However, if we are allowed to take the usage of Visual Den Den Mushi into consideration, Luffy’s Haki will not be able to convert into willpower-radio waves, but Nami will be able to attack various locations around the world at once, and thus victory would become Nami’s.

According to the mangaka, while Nami’s technique only works at a visible range, Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki doesn’t have any kind of specific range. Therefore, Nami will require some kind of medium, like the visual Den Den Mushi to let her attack reach various locations.

As Conqueror’s Haki cannot be converted into radio waves, if Nami uses the Den Den Mushi, she would be unstoppable and would easily beat Luffy without much effort at all, proving that her attack is one of the strongest in One Piece.

Nami’s happiness punch transcends Haki abilities

While talking about Nami’s happiness punch, Eiichiro Oda also confirmed that this attack is not only lethal in terms of damage, but it also causes a huge effect on the wallets of everyone who observes it. This is because Nami charges 100,000 berries per person for every One Piece character who sees it, thus making it even nastier than Haki.

Oda stated:

Nevertheless, it should be noted that the “Happiness Punch” also deals a great amount damage to one’s wallet as it requires the payment of 100,000 per person, and in this way, it can be confirmed that this attack is a great deal nastier than Haki in general.

It is safe to say that Nami’s happiness punch is capable of destroying the entire One Piece world and it does not even differentiate between male and female characters. However, it also causes a major problem within the One Piece narrative.

While it may be a comedic element within the series, it confuses the power scaling of One Piece, which is already one of the biggest debatable topics within the fanbase.
