Despite her team falling to a heavy loss, Reese set a record during the game.

As she plucked a rebound out of the air in the third quarter, she became the Sky star to grab the most offensive boards (118) in a single season in franchise history.

The previous record (117) had been set by eight-time All-Star and two-time WNBA champion Sylvia Fowles in 2013.

In her post-game presser, Reese was in no mood to discuss her landmark achievemnt.

“I know you care a lot more about the results than records but you set another record today,” a reporter put to the former LSU star, before being cut off.

“No, I don’t want to hear about no record today,’ Reese interjected, quickly putting an end to the discussion.

The Sky’s loss saw them fall to 10-15 on the season.

Three Team USA stars returned to the Mercury lineup last night after winning gold medals at the Paris Olympics last Sunday.

Brittney Griner went 10-12 from the field for 23 points alongside nine rebounds, while Kahleah Copper went for 29 in the blowout win.

Diana Taurasi, fresh off earning her sixth Olympic gold, added 11 points in 30 minutes for her squad.

With the Sky playing the Mercury again on Sunday, after a Saturday clash with the Los Angeles Sparks, Reese was willing to discuss Griner’s impact.

“She’s a great player, really efficient tonight,’ Reese said of the 10-time All-Star.

“Just being able to follow the game plan was something we didn’t do.

“We’ve got another shot at them on Sunday and I’m looking forward to it.”

How the WNBA works

THE 2024 WNBA season features 12 teams with the regular-season running from May 14 to September 9.

Each team plays 40 regular-season games – four against five teams from the same conference and two teams from the other conference, and three games against the remaining four teams.

The top eight teams in the league standings qualify for the playoffs – regardless of what conference they’re in.

The playoffs will use a best-of-three format in the first round while the semifinals and WNBA Finals are best of five.

This season also includes a month-long break for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Las Vegas Aces are defending back-to-back WNBA champions.

Earlier in the season, Reese achieved a record-breaking streak of 15 consecutive double-doubles.

That sequence was broken during a game against the New York Liberty last month, but Reese has added three further double-doubles since.

Last night, she contributed 11 points and 15 boards on 4-14 from the field.

The Sky had been without Chennedy Carter, who missed the game with a non-Covid illness.

Guard Dana Evans top scored for her team, contributing 14 points off 6-10 shooting.

While Kamilla Cardoso added 10 points and five boards.
