Since the note over 100 years ago, or somewhere around that period. Hence, the obvious would mean that he traveled the lands over a century ago and explored Elbaf in the same period. Therefore, the notion of him being alive is out of the window.

However, fans would lose their minds, because there’s a high probability of Arnot being alive. This notion is highly true because he warned fellow explorers to not spend too long on the island. When combining these two statements, it can be suggested that Louis Arnot learned that time flows differently outside the island.
Therefore, when headed back to the outside world, it had moved ahead, and he lost his place in the real world. Hence, it is highly possible that Arnot might be alive and is still on the island, patiently waiting for the manga artist to introduce him only when the time is ripe.
