Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Michael Gallup has seen enough of the NFL and is riding off into the sunset.

On Tuesday, the Raiders placed the 28-year-old on the reserve/retired list, which indicates his departure from the league at such a young age.

Michael Gallup, who played six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, signed a one-year deal with the Raiders just this offseason, so his retirement came as a shock to everybody.

Michael Gallup would later take to his Instagram story and post farewells from others.

Gallup played six seasons in the NFL, all of them with the Dallas Cowboys. He was projected to play a backup role with the Raiders since they are deep at the position and just drafted Brock Bowers.

Instead of seeing limited playing time, he decided to retire.

It’s unclear why Michael Gallup made the decision as he has yet to send out a formal statement addressing it.

Michael Gallup Joined The Dallas Cowboys As The Next Big Thing At Wide Receiver

Gallup joined the Cowboys as a third-round draft pick out of Colorado State in 2018 and showed how good he could be in the future in his first year.

As a rookie, he racked up 57 yards and emerged as Dak Prescott’s top target in his second season, posting 66 catches for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs.

However, things would quickly change as he never approached those numbers again in his subsequent four seasons.

In his third year in the league, Michael Gallup tallied 843 yards and five touchdowns, which was the final time he would get anywhere close to 1,000 again. He wouldn’t have a season over 445 yards in the next three years.

During this offseason, he became a cap casualty and got released by the Dallas Cowboys two years into a five-year, $57.5 million contract.

He made nearly $30 million over the course of his career.
