As the Indianapolis Colts reported for training camp, fans got their first look at quarterback Anthony Richardson, who is returning after an injury ended his rookie campaign in 2023.
Richardson is coming off shoulder surgery to his throwing arm and has experienced soreness recently.
There may be cause for concern as footage from training camp shows how inaccurate Anthony Richardson was during camp.
The video below shows several throws to various wide receivers with no defense in place. Many of his throws were severely overthrown.
Fans were concerned over what they were seeing:
Last season, Richardson, in only four games for the Colts, completed 50 of 84 passes (59.5 percent) for 577 yards and three touchdowns.
The fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, who is 6-foot-4, 255 pounds, also rushed 25 times for 136 yards and four scores.
His rushing got him hurt several times.
Indianapolis Colts Not Planning To Stop Anthony Richardson From RushingThe Ball
Even with Colts’ quarterback Anthony Richardson coming off a season-ending shoulder injury during his rookie year, his ability as a ball carrier will reportedly not stop as we get closer to the 2024 season.
Head coach Shane Steichen made that clear while invoking the name of Stephen Curry in his response to Richardson rushing the ball.
“People ask this, too,” said Shane Steichen after Thursday’s practice, per Indystar.com. ‘Hey, are you gonna limit the run game?’ And I kind of think like, ‘Shoot, are you gonna limit Steph Curry from shooting 3-pointers?’ Well, that’s one of Anthony’s strengths. We’re not gonna get away from that–that’s what he does well.”
In addition to Richardson sustaining the shoulder injury, he was also forced to leave the Colts’ Week 2 matchup against Houston early with a concussion.
His playing style has already shown that it could lead to Injuries.
