NC State quarterback Grayson McCall has announced his retirement from football following his latest head injury.
McCall suffered a concussion after executing a running play during a game against Wake Forest earlier this month and had to be carted off the field.
Having amassed a hefty list of head injuries, the star QB has opted to go the safe route and call it quits. He took to Instagram to announce as much on Wednesday night, citing discussions with his family and brain specialists, who he says have advised him that a life away from football is the best way forward.
“I have battled injuries my whole career, but this is one that I cannot come back from,” he wrote. “Brain specialists, my family, and I have come to the conclusion that it is in my best interest to hang the cleats up.
“As I feel like my whole world is being taken from me, I feel some sense of contentment. Every time my feet hit the grass, I left every single ounce of myself on that field. I always played my hardest and to the best of my ability because I never knew what play would be my last. I have no regrets throughout my career and that is something I can be proud of.”
Grayson McCall also sustained a serious head injury while at Coastal Carolina last season.
He threw for 10,005 yards and 88 touchdowns in 42 games for the Chanticleers before his NC State transfer, passing for 518 yards and three touchdowns, along with a pair of INTs in a Wolfpack uniform.
McCall was replaced by true freshman CJ Bailey after going down vs. Wake Forest.

While Grayson McCall is done playing, he’s not planning to step away from the gridiron altogether and is now looking to get into coaching.
“I look forward to taking my passion and love for the game into the coaching space to serve and lead the next group of kids with a dream,” he wrote as part of his announcement.
We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.
