Patrick Mahomes is not only one of the top GOAT candidates, but he is one of the most recognizable faces of the moment. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback knows how to maintain a positive media presence and that is exactly what Deion Sanders wants his players to achieve for the upcoming season.

The Buffaloes are gearing up for the 2023-2024 NCAA season. The team already had its first general meeting of the preseason training camps, where they heard Sanders giving one of his well-known motivational speeches.

On this occasion, Coach Prime touched on one of the topics that most concern players: name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals. Sanders’ talk revolved around what a college athlete needs to land a good NIL deal, and the best example he found was the Chiefs’ signal-caller.

The talk started with some generalities about facility cleanliness and player availability. Then, a former Colorado player who is now a police detective gave a few brief words to the team. Then, it was Sanders’ time to rally his team.

Coach Prime first warned his players that, starting next week, they will begin giving media access to the players. He explained they would choose a few to speak to the media every day and warned them that they would have to improve their speaking skills.

“Make sure you know how to articulate,” Sanders warned them, “Because you [are] sitting up here, you want the NIL and you can’t talk grabbing your n*ts. You know what I’m saying? Come on, ain’t nobody going to pay for that.”

That’s when he asked his players who the best quarterback is right now, and the vast majority pointed to Mahomes“Now, is he pretty good with the media?” Sanders asked, and most of the players nodded, amidst knowing laughter, because, after all, who doesn’t know the Chiefs’ star QB?

The importance of representing your team

Coach Prime explained to his players that knowing how to address the media is also important to representing the school well. “Make sure you understand how to present our program properly,” he warned them.
