One week after throwing for only 93 yards and no touchdowns in a sloppy Chicago Bears’ 24-17 Week 1 home win against the Tennessee Titans, Caleb Williams was hardly any better with 174 yards on 37 pass attempts for no touchdowns and three interceptions in a 19-13 loss on prime time game.
According to the BetMGM Sportsbook, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has emerged as the new betting favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award at +250, a big jump after opening with +650 odds.
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has the second-best odds at +350, with Caleb Williams behind him at +400. Daniels opened at +600, and Williams was previously the overwhelming favorite at +135.
After previously opening as a +1600 underdog, New York Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers has seen his odds climb all the way up to +650. Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy has the fifth-best odds at +1400.
Through his first two NFL games, Caleb Williams has only completed 56.1 percent of pass attempts for 267 yards, no touchdowns and two inteceptions for a woeful 53.0 quarterback rating.
Williams will try to lead the Bears to victory and pick up his first NFL touchdown(s) when the Bears visit Anthony Richardson and the 0-2 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Caleb Williams Must Improve For Bears To Have A Chance
The Bears have a solid defense to keep them in games, and the WR trio of Rome Odunze, DJ Moore and Keenan Allen give Williams plenty of options in the passing game. But if Chicago is to make a return to the postseason, the 2024 first-overall pick has to be better.
You just can’t win in today’s NFL with a mediocre quarterback. Williams doesn’t have to make the jump to superstar in year one, but he’s gotta do better than averaging under 140 passing yards a game. Pure and simple.
