In December last year, the production company behind the game, Game Workshop stated that it would work with Amazon to strategize and agree on certain creative guidelines for the film and TV adaptations of the game (via IGN). The deadline for that agreement is by the end of 2024. It seems that they have yet to reach an agreement regarding the same.

The partnership was announced in 2022, granting Amazon exclusive rights to produce multiple projects set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. However, in the Games Workshops’ annual financial report, it was made clear that an agreement had not been reached yet. The fate of the Warhammer 40,000 adaptation hinges on this agreement with only 5 months left to finalize the terms.

Games Workshop reiterated that the adaptation “will only proceed if the creative guidelines are mutually agreed between Games Workshop and Amazon.” The company assured that it would update fans about the deal, which would dictate whether Cavill’s dreams about Warhammer 40,000 materialized or not. It remains to be seen if the two companies agree on the terms within these 5 months.

Getting to be on the helm to ensure its faithfulness to the game is an opportunity that he is extremely grateful for. Cavill said,

It is the greatest privilege of my professional career to have this opportunity. I can’t say too much, again, it’s early days still. But to have this opportunity to bring it to screen, and be at the tiller so it can be faithful, is key to me. This is the stuff I’ve been dealing with since I was a kid. This is the stuff I spend my free time daydreaming about, as an adult as well, and I get to bring it into life. There is no greater reason than I joined the industry than doing something like this.
