Kwame Brown questions Bronny James' NBA DraftBronny James (Image Credit: Getty Images)
After experiencing a cardiac arrest during a training camp at USC, Bronny James faced uncertainty regarding his NBA dreams. However, following a strong finish to his college career, the Los Angeles Lakers made the decision to select him as the No. 55 overall pick, fulfilling a long-held aspiration for both him and his father, LeBron James.

Since the draft, both the Lakers and LeBron have faced backlash, with many accusing them of nepotism. Also, Bronny’s Summer League performances did not help alleviate concerns about his selection.

On a recent episode of the “Swish Cultures” podcast, former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown offered pointed criticism regarding Bronny’s drafting by the Lakers. Brown specifically mentioned DJ Burns, a center from NC State, questioning the decision to draft Bronny.

This is the tragedy that people are not realizing. They’re acting like the 55th pick ain’t nothing. But don’t you think the kid from NC State, who is a proven double-double monster, could have been a project?” Brown said.

Lose a little weight—this kid is a monster. What’s his name, the center for NC State? DJ Burns. How can you make a case for Bronny James, a guy that had a heart issue, that hadn’t proven anything, against a guy that went to a good school and put up numbers against everybody?” he added.

LeBron James Reflects on Training Camp with Bronny James

While critics continue to question Bronny James’ potential, LeBron James remains unfazed and focused on his son’s future. Instead of worrying about outside opinions, LeBron is relishing the opportunity to train alongside the Lakers rookie. After their first training camp together, he expressed his excitement in an interview with HoopsHype.

There were a couple of moments where I lost focus, and I’m not used to that happening when I’m on the court. But I was looking to the side, watching him, seeing him get ready and go for it. It’s going to be an incredible year for me, and I hope for him too,” LeBron said.

As the Lakers prepare to kick off the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron is anticipated to be a starter. Meanwhile, Bronny’s status remains uncertain, but his father’s support continues to shine through.
