That takes their season to 4-0 after the win at Sofi Stadium, as their charge for three Super Bowls in a row continues.

But the victory was marred by the horror knee injury to superstar wide receiver Rice.

The 24-year-old was carted off the field and looks set to miss the entire 2024-25 NFL season.

He is suspected to have torn his ACL, with tests to confirm the diagnosis scheduled for Monday.

Mahomes has now spoken out after the horrific scenes, and major blow to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl chances.

And the 29-year-old has told his offense, including Travis Kelce, that they will need to step up in his absence.

“We’ll see what happens with Rashee,” Mahomes told ESPN reporter Field Yates.

“Hopefully we can get him back at some point this season.

“If not, other guys gotta step up.

“That’s what football is about.

“I think we’ve got a lot of good guys out there that can go out there and make plays.”

Mahomes will feel even worse about Rice’s injury after the Chargers game due to the circumstances of it.

It was the QB’s interception that led to the wide out being left stricken on the ground.

Meanwhile, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed Rice is having an MRI on Monday.

“I feel terrible for Rashee, we will hope for the best,” said Reid.

The Chiefs have been contending with a number of significant problems so far this season.

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is out for the entire regular season.

But one positive note was the return to form for their superstar tight end Kelce.

He looked back to his old self against the Chargers, following a dismal start to the year.

The 34-year-old had seven catches for 89 yards, more than the previous three games combined.
