The Atlanta Falcons have signed Lamar Jackson…but it’s not the one you think.

Lamar Jackson, the two-time NFL MVP and superstar quarterback, is still a proud member of the Baltimore Ravens. The Falcons signed the other Jackson, a 26-year-old free agent cornerback who was previously with the Carolina Panthers, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

We can only imagine how many hearts of football fans skipped a beat today after the news broke. You may recall that the Ravens’ Jackson was linked to the Falcons in trade rumors before he signed a contract extension in 2023.

Social media, of course, had all sorts of priceless reactions to the news of THE OTHER Lamar Jackson landing with the Falcons:

The Falcons’ Jackson played at Nebraska before signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. He spent two seasons there before joining the Chicago Bears, appearing in five games for Matt Eberflus’ club.

Lamar Jackson landed with the Denver Broncos and played three games in 2022 before becoming a free agent again. He joined the Carolina Panthers in 2023, appearing in one game before getting waived.

Jackson has appeared in 23 NFL games, recording four pass breakups and 31 combined tackles. He had his best season in 2020, recording two pass breakups and 28 combined tackles in 13 game appearances.

Lamar Jackson Joins A Contender In The NFC

The well-traveled Jackson has never played for a playoff contender, but that’s about to change now that he’s in Atlanta. Despite losing to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, the 6-4 Falcons are sitting comfortably atop the weak NFC South with seven games to go.

Atlanta hasn’t qualified for the postseason since 2017, and they last won the division crown in 2016. But both droughts are set to finally end this year, barring a late-season collapse of epic proportions.

Lamar Jackson’s journey to NFL stardom as a quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens has been shaped by the powerful influence of his family, especially his parents. Known for his speed, agility, and strong arm, Jackson’s story is one of talent and family support. His mother, Felicia Jones, and his late father, Lamar Jackson Sr., played key roles in helping him become the person and player he is today.

Jackson was born on January 7, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, into a family with a deep love for sports. His father, Lamar Sr., coached young players in their neighborhood and helped Jackson develop a passion for football from a young age. But when Jackson was only eight, he faced a heartbreaking loss when both his father and grandmother passed away on the same day.

His mother, Felicia, became his main source of support, stepping into both roles as a parent and guiding him forward. Remembering his mother’s strength during this time, Jackson said, “It hurt me. I wanted to cry real bad, but my mom was the real soldier. She told me, ‘Lamar, don’t cry,’ and I’ll remember that for the rest of my life.”

Felicia has been by Jackson’s side throughout his journey. Jackson has said, “My immediate family is my mom. Everything goes around her. I’m a mama’s boy.” She showed up at every game and practice, always encouraging him to stay focused and keep pushing himself. Later, when Jackson chose to negotiate his NFL contract without an agent, she stepped in as his manager, supporting him as he secured a five-year, $260 million deal with the Ravens. Jackson used his first NFL paycheck to buy her a new home to thank her for her sacrifices and dedication.

Felicia’s Persistent Support And The Lasting Influence Of Lamar Jackson Sr.

Felicia’s support went far beyond just her son; she has always been deeply committed to helping her community. She took the initiative to organize football training sessions for young athletes in their area, a program she began when Jackson was just a child. Her ongoing involvement has made her a consistent role model for her family and the entire community.

Although his father is no longer here, Lamar Jackson Sr.’s influence remains a significant part of Jackson’s life. Jackson frequently shares how his father instilled in him a strong work ethic and a passion for football that continues to guide him today. Reflecting on the support from her mother, Jackson has often expressed, “She’s the one who keeps me motivated no matter what. She’s driving me. Whenever you need someone to lean back on or to talk to, she’s there.”

Jackson’s achievements are a direct reflection of the love, strength, and dedication of his family, particularly his mother, whom he lovingly refers to as his “superhero.” Through her example, he learned that if she could face life’s challenges with courage, he, too, could overcome anything.
