The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing one of their kickers this weekend. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the AFC West champs are cutting Matthew Wright.
Wright has been key for the Chiefs in Harrison Butker’s absence this season and was the NFL Special Teams Player of the Week this week. But the team is letting him go, with Butker expected to return against the Cleaveland Browns on Sunday.
“Chiefs are releasing kicker Matthew Wright today, per source. Harrison Butker now is expected to kick Sunday vs. the Browns,” the NFL insider reported on Saturday.

NFL Fans Can’t Believe Matthew Wright Is Out Of A Job After His Recent Performances For The Chiefs
Wright’s release came across as a surprise for obvious reasons.
“Talk about a rollercoaster! From Special Teams Player of the Week to out of a job in days. NFL life is wild,” someone commented under Schefter’s tweet.

“Hopefully none of our enemies sign him and he kicks a winning field goal in the AFC championship game,” a Chiefs fan added.
“I bet he won’t be unemployed for long,” someone predicted.

As the comment right above suggests, Matthew Wright should have no problems finding another team. But he must be disappointed he won’t get any opportunities for more heroics in the playoffs as the Chiefs look to return to the Super Bowl.
