Chiefs Make Historic Announcement on Friday

The Kansas City Chiefs made sure to remind everyone of the history they made this week.

On Christmas Day, the Chiefs secured their 15th win of the season by defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers, 29-10. Patrick Mahomes led the way, as he finished with 320 yards and three touchdowns on 29-of-38 pass completion.

Meanwhile, Travis Kelce secured a milestone himself, surpassing Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving touchdowns in franchise history. He had eight catches for 84 yards and one touchdown in the contest.

More than those standout performances, though, the Chiefs revealed on Friday that their win is actually a franchise record for the regular season.

“The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas, setting a franchise record 15 victories for the regular season,” the team’s post on Instagram reads.

The Chiefs then further flexed the achievement with the caption, “We like the number 15 around here.” It’s a reference to Mahomes’ jersey number, as the Kansas City signal-caller wears No. 15.

It’s certainly another reason to celebrate for the Chiefs amid what has been a phenomenal season for them.

They improved to 15-1 on the season following Wednesday’s victory, allowing them to clinch the top seed in the AFC. That means they will get a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the NFL playoffs.

The Chiefs are eyeing the NFL’s first-ever Super Bowl three-peat, and they certainly put themselves in a good position to do just that with the historic run they are having.
