When Caleb Williams got drafted, he likely thought he would be in for an all-time rookie campaign.
It hasn’t been anything close for the former Oklahoma and USC star quarterback. He’s shown flashes, but there have been more struggles than good times.
Being a rookie quarterback in the NFL is tough, and Chicago Bears rookie signal-caller Caleb Williams is finding that out in each passing game.
What could help rookies along the way is the support of teammates.
A report from earlier this week claimed that “a few” veteran Chicago Bears players wanted him benched in favor of backup Tyson Bagent following the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
“I think those guys are good, easy. We talk about it,” Williams explained, as shared by Courtney Cronin of ESPN. “I think I got full support from them. I’ve gotten texts or calls or people coming up to me, with this situation that just happened, and saying, ‘We got your back, we’re with you.’ You know, things like that and, ‘Let’s go.’ That kind of mindset and attitude has been what it’s been this past couple days. And that’s kind of what it’s only been.”

The Bears started the season out hot, winning four of their first six games with Caleb Williams leading the charge. However, things would change quickly as Williams has seen his play on the field regress over three consecutive losses.
The team is now at the bottom of the NFC North.
Caleb Williams Is On A Bad Streak Following A Historic Game
Last month, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams delivered a massive game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The No. 1 pick in last April’s NFL draft threw four touchdown passes in the 35–16 win in London. He became the first quarterback to throw four touchdowns at Tottenham Spurs Stadium in a game.
On the day, Williams completed 23-of-29 pass attempts for 226 yards. Williams also ran for 56 yards on four carries.
No one had a clue what was to come.
Over the past three games, which have been all losses, Caleb Williams has not thrown or ran for a single touchdown.
He has also been sacked a mind-boggling 18 times in that stretch.

The Bears seem to be making all the right moves when it comes to building their squad, but it just isn’t working out. Despite drafting Caleb Williams as the No. 1 overall pick earlier this year and surrounding him with offensive weapons, things have already soured in the Chi.
The team fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday, just 10 months after he got the job.
Head coach Matt Eberflus announced the firing one day after promising changes. Passing game coordinator Thomas Brown has been promoted in Waldron’s place.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that several Bears players want Williams’ being a starter to be among changes to the team’s offense.
According to Bears columnist Marc Silverman (H/T JPAFootball), multiple veterans want Tyson Bagent starting instead.

Matt Eberflus Wants To Continue With Caleb Williams At QB
Despite the above, it doesn’t appear that Eberflus has any such plans, at least not right now.
“Caleb is our starter,” he said on Monday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Williams’ rookie season hasn’t gone quite as well as most expected following his exploits in college. The quarterback went 16-of-30 for 120 passing yards in Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots and was sacked nine times.
He is also the most-sacked QB in the NFL this season, having gone down 38 times.
“Definitely this game is a lot to learn from for myself, just speaking on some of the situational things,” he said after the Week 10 loss. “Obviously, there’s a few passes every game that you wish you could have back and things like that. But I think situationally, this game was a great learning experience for me with some of these situations that I could have done better for sure.”
Time will tell whether his play improves under the new OC.
