Daniel Jones has reportedly ruled one NFL team out amid his search for a new home.
The quarterback is now a free agent following his release from the New York Giants last week, having cleared waivers on Monday. He is thought to be an intriguing prospect for multiple teams, with some considering him a quality backup and others viewing him as a potential starter.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport listed the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and Las Vegas Raiders as possible destinations over the weekend. However. FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz has reported that the Raiders are not under consideration as the quarterback wants to play for a contender.
“Sources: Despite interest from the #Raiders, free agent QB Daniel Jones has eliminated Las Vegas from his consideration (contrary to other reports),” Schultz wrote in a tweet on Monday. “The former #Giants’ QB is weighing substantial interest from multiple playoff teams, and wants to join a postseason contender.”
Daniel Jones Probably Wouldn’t Get On The Field With A Contender
Should Jones end up on a contending team, he won’t play unless their starter suffers an injury.

But he is set to make $11 million from the Giants in any case, so signing with a well-run franchise and getting an opportunity to acquire a Super Bowl ring would probably mark an excellent finish to the season where he’s concerned.

Daniel Jones isn’t expected to be out of a job for long following his departure from New York.
The Giants released the quarterback upon his request late last week, having previously benched him in favor of Tommy DeVito following their 2-8 start.
Jones will clear waivers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday as it’s assumed that no team will claim him before then, given that they’d have to take on his remaining $11.8 million salary.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the QB will join a new team “relatively quickly” once he clears waivers, adding that the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and Las Vegas Raiders stand out as the most “intriguing” options.
Daniel Jones Could Still Play Significant Minutes This Season
While he wouldn’t be expected to usurp Lamar Jackson in Baltimore and won’t play unless the reigning MVP gets injured, there is a chance that Daniel Jones could be given an opportunity in San Francisco or Vegas.

Brock Purdy is already set to miss this week’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers due to a shoulder injury. He could return for next week’s game against the Buffalo Bills, but the Niners likely won’t rush him back if they have someone like Jones on the roster.
The Raiders have struggled at the quarterback position all season, trying out three players under center. A move to Vegas would present Jones with the best chance of becoming a starter.
“Jones could audition for his future role and maybe earn an even bigger one, while the Raiders get a look at a free agent-to-be. Las Vegas likely won’t make the playoffs, but that might be Jones’ best choice for his future.”
It’s also possible that an injury during this week’s slate of games could present him with additional options.
