New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Florida this week.

Taylor – a former pass rusher who is one of the best defensive players in NFL history and has been described as the best defensive player of all time by former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick – is reported to have turned himself in to police following the emergence of a warrant.

According to TMZ, Taylor was arrested in Broward County late Wednesday afternoon and has since been released.

“Broward County jail officials tell us … Taylor turned himself in on an outstanding felony warrant on Wednesday at around 5 PM — and was thrown behind bars on one charge of failure to report name or residence change,” TMZ notes.

“The ex-New York Giants superstar remained in jail for several hours … before he was ultimately released at around 3 AM on Thursday.”

Lawrence Taylor’s Lawyer Says He Is Innocent

The 65-year-old, a two-time Super Bowl winner and former league MVP, is among the most talented players in NFL history. However, he has found himself in trouble with the law on multiple occasions.

His recent arrest was the second for the same offense since 2021.

His attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, insists it was due to a misunderstanding.

“My client, Lawrence Taylor, will be pleading ‘Not Guilty’ to the recent charges,” Eiglarsh told TMZ. “As with the previous incident involving the same allegations, Mr. Taylor did not knowingly commit any criminal offense. This situation is a significant misunderstanding.”

“We are confident that, once the prosecutors review the exculpatory evidence demonstrating Mr. Taylor’s innocence, he will once again achieve a favorable outcome.”

Lawyer Tries Desperately To Explain Lawrence Taylor’s Sex Offender Violation Arrest

Lawrence Taylor is facing felony charges in South Florida after failing to report an address change as required because of his status as a registered sex offender.

The former NFL linebacker was booked into the Broward County jail last Thursday on two counts of failing to alert authorities to an address change, according to court records. Taylor was released shortly after his booking on $500 bail.

Taylor’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, is now trying desperately to clear up all the confusion.

“Sadly he is in the middle of a divorce and his local police department suggested it would be best if he slept at a nearby hotel,” Aidala said. “Mr. Taylor was constantly a resident of the marital home where he was registered, but on advice of local law enforcement he was sleeping outside the home. We are confident that this will be resolved favorably for Lawrence at the first court hearing.”

Accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl, the 62-year-old pled guilty to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute in 2011. He had to register as a sex offender and was given six years of probation.

Taylor played linebacker for the Giants from 1981-1993, recorded 142 regular season sacks and was a driving force on the team’s Super Bowl victories in 1987 and 1991.
