Sean Payton wanted to keep things simple during the Broncos’ ‘Thursday Night Football’ showdown with the Chargers.
The Denver head coach had his play sheet flash on the Prime Video broadcast during the second quarter while his team led 14-10. And folks noticed his straightforward plan: running the football.
Of course, he didn’t exactly stick to it as rookie quarterback Bo Nix threw the ball plenty, but a photo of the exposed sheet has gone viral anyway.

“That’s a hell of a plan,” someone pointed out.
“Passed twice on the goaline there 🤣,” another observed.
“Just when I think I understand illegal man downfield ….” said a third.
“The run sets up the pass plays,” someone else pointed out.
“Meanwhile Bo Nix has 158 pass yds/2 TDs and it is still the 1st half,” a user wrote.
“Straightforward and effective-run the ball!” another declared.
The Broncos were trailing 27-24 with just over minutes to go in the fourth quarter at the time of writing. Running back Audric Estime had made seven carries for 36 yards, while Nix had passed for 200 yards and two TDs.
Looks like this may have been on purpose.

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix had a priceless response via Instagram to Sean Payton’s “Ferris Bueller” comment after the team’s Week 5 home win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Late in the third quarter of the Broncos-Raiders game in Mile High City, cameras caught a heated sideline argument between Sean Payton and Bo Nix. The exchange occurred after Nix missed a touchdown pass to wide receiver Troy Franklin on a third-down play:
Speaking to reporters after the game, Payton addressed the interaction with Nix and referenced the 1986 hit film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, which starred Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, and Mia Sara.
Specifically, Payton said that Bo Nix has some “Ferris Bueller in” him that the Broncos must “get rid of.” When asked by a report about the Bueller reference, Payton said Bueller is “quirky, doing his own thing.”

Well, Nix decided to have some fun with Payton’s “Ferris Bueller” comment by posting this epic video on Instagram:
Hey, the vibes have to be pretty good if your head coach and quarterback can publicly use great humor to downplay a heated sideline argument.
The Broncos selected Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick in this year’s draft, making him the sixth quarterback taken behind Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, Michael Penix Jr. and JJ McCarthy.
Through his first five games, Nix has completed 61.8 percent of pass attempts for 866 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. The Broncos are on a three-game winning streak and will look to make it four in a row when they host the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
Bo Nix & Broncos Look Like Playoff Contenders
The Broncos came into 2024 with minimal expectations, and they certainly left a lot to be desired after an 0-2 start. But Denver’s young offense and lights-out defense has them back in the playoff race, and it’s not a stretch to call them postseason contenders.
The AFC isn’t as daunting as most projected, with teams like the Dolphins, Jets, Browns, Bengals and Jaguars all playing below expectations. So a path is there for the Broncos to sneak into the postseason and end a nine-year playoff drought with their rookie QB.
