Reports surfaced this week that Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had to be separated from fighting.

This occurred right after Washington defeated Philadelphia in Week 16.

During postgame handshakes after the Commanders beat the Eagles 36-33, video showed Ertz and Sirianni embracing each other with a handshake, but they would soon have to be separated by Eagles security officer Dom “Big Dom” DiSandro.

Ertz went to initially shake Sirianni’s hand but, upon realizing the coach was still pissed about the outcome of the game, he opted for a high five instead.

Sirianni apparently took exception to Ertz’s gesture, which led to him saying something to him as the tight end’s back was turned.

Ertz heard it and immediately came back to confront Nick Sirianni, which inserted chief security officer Dom DiSandro into the situation as he separated the two.

We are now seeing footage of that incident:

Nick Sirianni was asked about the exchange and said, “We just say congrats like congrats, both of us say congrats to each other.”

He later called Ertz via Zoom to apologize.

As for Ertz, he told the Inquirer postgame, “I’ll let him comment on what was said. To me, we just exchanged holiday pleasantries and kept it moving.”

What Was Said Between Nick Sirianni And Zach Ertz?

Commanders tight end Zach Ertz and Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni weren’t together long, as Ertz was traded away during Sirianni’s first year as the Eagles’ coach.

Sirianni and Ertz got into an altercation during postgame handshakes, which required Eagles chief security officer Big Dom to separate them.

Sources told Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer that Nick was upset over the intensity of Ertz’s hand slap and proceeded to mock him for only having one catch in the game.

Jayden Daniels threw his fifth touchdown pass of the game with 6 seconds left to give the Washington Commanders a 36-33 victory over the Eagles, but somehow, that would become a footnote to what happened after the game was over.

The Washington Commanders pulled off one of the most improbable comeback wins of the 2024 season. However, there was reportedly an incident after the Eagles vs Commanders game involving Philadephia head coach Nick Sirianni and Washington TE Zach Ertz.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Nick Sirianni and Ertz “had to be separated by Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro.”

The report added that “their brief dust-up saw Ertz take exception to a comment Sirianni made about his performance in the game.”

It turns out the incident between them was over a handshake.

Sources close to the incident stated Ertz initially wanted to shake Sirianni’s hand and could tell the coach was agitated by the loss. Instead, he decided to give him a high five.

Nick Sirianni became enraged over the intensity of Ertz’s hand slap and mocked him since he only had one catch and did close to nothing to contribute to the Commanders’ victory.

Ertz took exception and got in Sirianni’s face, but they were separated.

This was shocking news since Ertz spent eight-plus seasons with the Eagles before he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals midway through 2021.

He remains second in franchise history in receptions (579) and fifth in receiving yards (6,267).
