On Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered a brutal knee injury that was initially feared to be an ACL tear but is likely much less severe. The injury happened after Patrick Mahomes collided with Rice while both tried to make a tackle after an interception.
On Thursday, while talking to reporters, Mahomes revealed what was going on in his mind during the play.
“I didn’t notice it in the moment, I more worried about trying to get the ball,” Mahomes said. “But obviously, I was just trying to make a play, and it happens whenever you’re trying to make tackles.”
He later touched on his reaction to the injury after seeing the replay and the injury for the first time.
“I mean, when I saw the replay, I felt like shit that I hit Rashee,” he continued. “I think that’s pretty much all — I mean, I wasn’t worried about myself. I was worried about, hopefully, his injury and hoping it wasn’t as bad as it looked because I was the one that hit him.”

Of course, the hit was unintentional and could be considered more of a freak accident. Luckily, though, new reports suggest that Rice voided a season-ending injury and will likely be out for four-plus weeks.

Patrick Mahomes Is Not Off To His Usual Start
Patrick Mahomes is easily one of the most skilled quarterbacks ever and consistently puts up MVP numbers.
However, that hasn’t been the case four weeks into the season. So far, Mahomes has completed 83 passes in 121 attempts for 904 yards, six touchdowns, five interceptions, and a passer rating of 89.7.
It’s just four games into the season, though, and he still has plenty of time to turn it around and return to MVP form.

Fans are praying for Patrick Mahomes and his family following a worrying revelation from the quarterback’s mother.
Patrick has been the executor of four straight wins for the Kansas City Chiefs, but he’s likely got a lot on his mind as his grandfather is still in hospital.
Randi Mahomes, Pat’s mother, watched her son’s most recent outing alongside her father, Randy Martin, and daughter, Mia Randall, on Sunday. She posted a photo showing the quarterback’s grandfather watching from a hospital bed.
“Watching game with daddy today… prayers please for my dad,” she captioned the photo.
Randi previously asked for prayers for her dad, who she said was “in the hospital and is not well” on September 13.
“Praying for God to release great peace, undisturbed composure, and miracles over your dad,” someone wrote in the comments.

Randi Mahomes Recently Admitted It’s Tough Being Mother To Patrick Mahomes
Randi Mahomes has two children with Patrick Mahomes’ father, former MLB pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr. They Divorced in 2006 and have had other kids since.
Randi has been a vocal supporter of both her sons – Patrick and Jackson – but earlier this year, she admitted it was tough being the mother of one of the most famous athletes in the world because of the public scrutiny it attracts.
“We just want to be normal and go and have dinner. We don’t do that. At my work, it’s really hard because 90% of my phone calls aren’t about work. I still go to work and want to live normal,” she explained.
“I look at some of my friends on social media and I’m jealous that they have this normal [life]. Their kids are the same age as Patrick and Jackson, and they have this normal situation and we don’t. It’s super difficult.”
We’re hoping all goes well for Randy and the Mahomes family and that he can return home soon.
