Tony Romo delivered quite the hot take on Jayden Daniels that didn’t exactly age well, seconds before the Washington Commanders’ rookie quarterback completed a game-winning Hail Mary touchdown against the Chicago Bears.

Jim Nantz and Tony Romo were on the call for the Commanders-Bears game at Northwest Stadium. This highly-anticipated affair marked the first showdown between Daniels and Caleb Williams, the first two picks of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Daniels’ status for Week 8 was up in the air because of a rib injury he suffered in Week 7 against the Carolina Panthers. Backup Marcus Mariota played most of that game, leading Washington to a 40-7 blowout victory.

Moments before Noah Brown answered Daniels’ Hail Mary heave, Tony Romo suggested that the Commanders bring in Mariota to attempt the pass, citing the rookie’s rib injury:

In Romo’s defense, nobody is making a big deal of his comment if the Bears actually played the Hail Mary right. They made the mistake of letting Brown get behind them to catch the deflection for the game-winning score, dropping them to 4-3 on the season;

Still, the many critics of Tony Romo aren’t going to let him live this one down any time soon.

Tony Romo & Jim Nantz Will Call Broncos vs. Ravens In Week 9

Today, CBS Sports shared its announcer team assignments for Week 9. Romo and Nantz will be on the call for the Denver Broncos’ Week 9 road game against the Baltimore Ravens in a game that carries giant postseason implications.

Weeks ago, CBS probably wanted them on the call for the Miami Dolphins-Buffalo Bills game in Highmark Stadium. But with the Dolphins falling to 2-5 on the year, this game carries much less excitement than a clash between the 5-3 Broncos and Ravens.

The Broncos and Ravens have both won five of their last six games following disappointing 0-2 starts. Vance Joseph’s defense vs. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry promises to be a dandy, alright.

Cameras caught Caleb Williams’ priceless reaction to Jayden Daniels’ game-winning Hail Mary touchdown pass to Noah Brown at the end of the Chicago Bears-Washington Commanders game on Sunday.

The first showdown between Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels, the top two picks of the 2024 NFL Draft, did not disappoint. Roschon Johnson seemingly won the game for the visitors when he scored a go-ahead touchdown with only 23 ticks remaining.

But 23 seconds and no timeouts proved to be more than enough time for Daniels, who put a cherry on top of his thrilling rookie season by throwing the game-winning touchdown to Brown on the game’s final play:

Losing on a miracle play is always hard to stomach, but this is especially a big mid-season blow to the Bears. There’s a huge difference between 5-2 and 4-3, and now they sit last in the gauntlet that is the NFC North division.

Caleb Williams Had An Off Day vs. Commanders

The Bears will be kicking themselves for giving up that game-winning play, but Williams and the Chicago offense must take responsibility as well. They mustered only 307 yards of offense on 60 plays and were shut out in the first half.

This was a case of waiting too long to get it going offensively. If the Bears figured it out on that side of the ball much earlier, they wouldn’t have lost on a miracle play.
