Barbara Butch Responds To Threats After Being Accused Of Mocking Jesus Christ During Opening Ceremony At Paris Olympics
The Olympics opened with a vast presentation that included what many people worldwide think was a parody of The Last Supper created by drag queens. It received a lot of backlash, causing one of the performers to respond.
The opening ceremony demonstrated an interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus. It was centered by French DJ Barbara Butch, who many thought was mocking Jesus Christ, and has received a lot of backlash.
Butch had to respond to the backlash, and she led off by stating that she was trying to “unite people” with her art. People don’t seem to care, though, as Butch has received tons of death threats and has filed suit.
Butch’s lawyer, Audrey Msellati, released a statement, “Butch has been the target of an… …extremely violent campaign of cyberharassment and defamation.” She also added Butch has been “threatened with death, torture, and rape.”

Maserati also went into detail about Butch’s real goals through the performance and plans to sue anybody who plans on criticizing the performance anytime soon. She stated that “she is filing several complaints against these acts,” adding that she “intends to prosecute anyone who tries to intimidate her in the future.”
Since the Who controversy over the Olympics opening ceremony first started, the show’s artistic director has defended the creation. He pointed out that it wasn’t trying to mock The Last Supper but rather a “pagan celebration.”
Butch being the center of the piece, isn’t the best look after what people have said, but as the Olympic games go on, we have to hope that the actual games take the focus off the DJ and she stops receiving death threats.
