A’ja Wilson made WNBA history during the Las Vegas Aces’ game against the Indiana Fever, breaking the league’s single-season scoring record.

Wilson surpassed Jewell Loyd’s 2023 record of 939 points by hitting a jumper with just 26.4 seconds left in the second quarter. Wilson, a two-time MVP, ended the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Aces to an 86-75 victory.

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Wilson accomplished the feat in just 35 games, while Loyd set her record over 38.

Chasing another big milestone

Wilson‘s previous personal best was 912 points last season, and now with 956 points and four games left, she could become the first player to reach 1,000 points in a single season.

“I don’t want to sound cliche when I say this but, I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way,” an emotional Wilson said.

“I’m so grateful to be able to play with selfless women.

“My teammates are the heartbeat. They keep me going. I don’t get any points without them passing me the basketball.

“So the points are great. They’re always going to be there. I’m never going to stop shooting, but the group that we have in this locker room is something that I’m truly so happy to be around.

“Feels great, ’cause now people will stop talking about it. I felt like it was just lingering, lingering, lingering, so I’m glad that we got it done. It’s been a lot of fun.”

Despite recovering from an ankle injury that caused her to miss the previous game, Wilson‘s performance shows no signs of slowing down. The Aces have another matchup against the Fever soon, giving Wilson further opportunities to add to her incredible season.
