Caitlin Clark can't believe what she discovered about her former Iowa coach

Caitlin Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year and ex-Indiana Fever standout, recently learned something surprising about her former Iowa associate coach, Jan Jensen.

While Clark was aware Jensen played basketball during her college years, she had no idea just how talented her coach was on the court.

Jensen, who was promoted to head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes after Lisa Bluder‘s retirement, had a storied career as a forward at Drake University.

A recently shared highlight reel from Jensen‘s playing days posted by the Iowa Women’s Basketball Team left Clark in shock and sparked an entertaining back-and-forth between the two.

“This Can’t Be Real”

Clark‘s astonishment was evident when she commented on the video, saying, “This can’t be real.”

The footage, which showcased Jensen‘s scoring prowess and her signature shooting style, led Clark to add another observation: “Bruh she still shoots EXACTLY like this.”

Not one to let the comment slide, Jensen responded with humor and pride. “To all the ‘Bruhs’ commenting…namely @caitlinclark22…this shootah had game for days! (vertical may be questionable, but I did jump over a chair and a fan!).”

The playful exchange didn’t stop there, as other former and current Hawkeyes players joined the conversation. Las Vegas Aces guard Kate Martin simply remarked, “Shooters gonna shoot,” while Gabie Marshall added, “She’s a dawg.”

Current junior Jada Gyamfi joined in as well, writing, “Nahhh this is cold.”

Jensen’s career as a player was impressive, earning her the title of Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year while at Drake.

Now, as the head coach of the Hawkeyes, she has seamlessly stepped into her new role, leading Iowa to an undefeated start in her first four games this season.

Jensen’s transition to head coach comes after years as an associate coach, during which she helped shape the development of players like Clark.

Their bond, built during Clark‘s time at Iowa, remains evident through their lighthearted interactions and mutual respect.
