Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) is greeted by coach Christie...

The WNBA season ended this Sunday with the first title in the history of the New York Liberty. For Caitlin Clark the Rookie of the Year, it was a great end to a year that exceeded expectations, especially considering the 1-8 start to the season. But they finished strong, winning nine of their last 14 games after the Olympics break. For many people, especially Fever fans, a big part of this turnaround was the chemistry between head coach Christie Sides and the team. Sides led the team to the playoffs in her second season, their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Fever Consider Coaching Change as Sides’s Future Uncertain

Christie Sides‘ future with the Indiana Fever is in question. Despite a successful season, rumors have surfaced that the team is considering a coaching change. Stephanie White, a former coach of the Connecticut Sun, has expressed interest in the position and is currently in talks with several teams, including the Fever. The Chicago Sky, a rival of the Fever, is also looking for a new coach after firing Teresa Weatherspoon. The Sky’s rivalry with the Fever, fueled by the ongoing competition between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, may play a role in their coaching decisions.

What makes me think White might prefer the Fever is the fact that she played there for four seasons and also coached the team for two seasons, reaching the finals in 2015 but losing to the Minnesota Lynx. This season, White made the Sun the best defensive team in the league, which would benefit a young team like the Fever, bringing strength on defense and building more character. However, something would have to happen with Christie first, who hasn’t done a bad job in my opinion, but the Fever management knows they have a diamond in Clark, so they don’t want to waste any time.

Caitlin Clark Shatters Records in Historic Rookie WNBA Season

Caitlin Clark, this season’s WNBA Rookie of the Year, had perhaps the best rookie campaign in history as her rookie season with the Indiana Fever was nothing short of extraordinary. She led the entire WNBA in assists per game (8.4), set the record for most assists in a season with 337, and holds the single-game assist record with 19. Clark dominated in three-pointers, making 122 to move into second place all-time for most three-pointers in a season behind Sabrina Ionescu’s 128. She now holds the record for most three-pointers made by a rookie in WNBA history. Among rookies, Clark led in nearly every statistical category this season: points, assists, three-pointers, field goals and steals, while also becoming the first rookie to record a triple-double, doing so twice.
