The boxing and sports world has been in a frenzy ever since Algerian women’s boxer Imane Khelif forced Italian Angela Carini to quit 46 seconds into their match. This stirred up lots of transgender rumors around Khelif despite never identifying as such.
Now, even fellow Olympic athletes are starting to comment on the situation. The most notable is Khelif’s next opponent, Luca Anna Hamori Hungary, through a post on social media.
The post in question features the words “Paris 2024” and has a woman boxer touching gloves with satan. Many view it as a direct message to the Olympics for allowing Khelif to continue competing.
After public outrage, Hamori deleted all posts that had to do with the situation.
“I don’t even understand?? You need to be muscular to be able to box properly because you need strength, yet a woman is strong and it’s a problem?? It’s not figure skating it’s boxing??,” wrote one X user.
“She (Luca) should get disqualified for that for disrespecting the Olympic honour/idea,” wrote another.
After being disqualified from the 2023 World Championships after tests revealed she had XY chromosomes, many believe she should also be taken out of the Olympics.
Imane Khelif and Luca Anna Hamori Set To Fight Aug. 3
Khelif and Hamori are set to fight in the quarterfinals of the women’s 66 kg bracket on Aug. 3.
Both are competing for their first Olympic medal, with Hamori competing in her first Olympics ever and Khelif in her second after finishing fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics competing in the women’s light division.
