Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown is dating Kysre Gondrezick, a former top pick in the WNBA. During an interview, Gondrezick opened up on her early days as a pro and her “welcome to the WNBA” moment.

After spending her college career playing for Michigan and West Virginia, Gondrezick entered the WNBA draft and was picked fourth overall by the Indiana Fever in 2021.

While sitting down with “Overtime,” Kysre Gondrezick reflected on the moment she knew the WNBA was going to be a totally different experience. She recalls taking a screen in practice that was so hard it knocked her eyelash extensions off her eye.

“My teammate was Teaira McCowan at the time,” Gondrezick said. “She set a screen on me in practice and knocked the entire right side of all of my lashes off. That was my moment where I’m just like, holy cow.”

Gondrezick’s time with the Fever would be short-lived, playing in just 19 games in 2021. She’d then be out of the league for two years before receiving another shot. Gondrezick returned to the WNBA this season, although it was another brief appearance. She landed a deal with the Chicago Sky but only appeared in five games before being waived.

Kysre Gondrezick opens up on the growth of the WNBA

Having been in and around the WNBA for some time now, Kysre Gondrezick has seen firsthand the steady growth and popularity in the league. During her interview with Overtime, she touched on the difference between now and when she first started playing.

Gondrezick accepted that the league finds itself in a booming period now and the young players on the rise should be excited about what’s ahead.

“[3:40] I think that right now, it’s and exciting time,” Gondrezick said. “The young girls that are coming up after us definitely have a lot to look forward to.

“Kind of like my generation, it was kind of the unknown. You were just really passionate to play. Wanted to get to the highest level and to experience that.”

Among those who have helped increase the reach of the WNBA this season is a good friend of Kysre Gondrezick. During her short time with the Chicago Sky, she became good friends with rookie Angel Reese.

In terms of young players who are helping to put the league on the map, Reese ranks near the top. She has a large social media following and has made headlines for her excellent performance. Reese has also signed a deal with Reebok despite having just completed her rookie year.

Reese and Gondrezick have spent a lot of time together over the past few months. Most notably during the NBA Summer League, when they sat courtside with Jaylen Brown.
