Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has football fans losing their minds after strangely comparing himself to Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Jerry Jones has faced intense criticism this offseason for failing to deliver on his promise that the Cowboys would be “all-in” this offseason. Jones made the comments two weeks after the Cowboys were humiliated by the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round, per the team’s official website:
“I would anticipate – with looking ahead at our key contracts that we’d like to address – we will be all in. I would anticipate we will be all in at the end of this year…It will be going all in on different people than you’ve done in the past. We will be going all in. We’ve seen some things out of some of the players that we want to be all in on. Yes, I would say that you will see us this coming year not build it for the future. It’s the best way I’ve ever said. And that ought to answer a lot of questions.”
Jones spoke to reporters about the team’s expectations for 2024. During his press conference, the longtime NFL owner made a strange comparison of himself to Kansas City’s signal-caller, via Air Meirov of The 33rd Team:
“We’re buying time. We’re an option quarterback and then we’re going on out towards the sideline. We haven’t handed it off, we haven’t pitched it. We’re trying to make our mind up of what to do, does that sound like (Patrick) Mahomes to you? A little bit? Okay.”
And don’t worry, folks. NFL X/Twitter is just as confused as you are over Jerry Jones’ strange comparison to Patrick Mahomes:
Training camp season is upon us, and Jerry Jones still hasn’t made a single notable trade or free agent signing to help his roster. Dallas has lost a handful of impact players from last year, including star offensive linemen Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz, top running back Tony Pollard and All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
In the meantime, Mahomes and his Chiefs are gearing up for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to three-peat. In the last five years alone, Mahomes has as many Super Bowls (three) as the Cowboys have won (1992, 1993 and 1995) since Jones became the owner in 1989.
Jerry Jones Should Do Less Talking & More Action
Most NFL owners try to limit their availability to the media, but Jones is always more than happy to speak openly to reporters. But at the end of the day, much of Jones’ pressers are nothing more than word salad.
Cowboys fans don’t want to hear Jones expressing optimism. They want to see him actually make moves that put Dallas in a better position to compete for a Super Bowl, and he can start by extending quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and/or linebacker Micah Parsons.
