The Denver Nuggets are having a challenging start to the season. Following a tough preseason where they finished with a 1-4 record, the Nuggets have kicked off their regular season with two consecutive losses. Nikola Jokic’s team fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 102-87 defeat and then lost a close game against the Los Angeles Clippers, 104-109.
This rocky start has already frustrated Jokic; he didn’t hold back when talking to reporters. When asked if there was a timeline for the Nuggets to find solutions to their struggles, Jokic replied with a hint of sarcasm, saying he wanted the answer “probably yesterday.”
It’s clear that Jokic and his teammates are eager to turn things around and secure a win as they continue on the road. Reporters then asked him what he thought the team should focus on over the next three games to break this losing streak. While replying to the question, Jokic’s humor surfaced amid his frustration.
Jokic Stresses Need for Better Play Despite Strong Individual Stats
Nikola Jokic is on the pace of breaking multiple records this season. Hence, the Nuggets star is making it clear that the Denver Nuggets need to raise their level of play, himself included. During the press conference, Jokic addressed the team’s struggles and appealed to everyone to step up.
“Just because I scored 40 today doesn’t mean I played good. I think we need to be better. I don’t think we need to question my patience because I’m with the guys. I’m not separate from them, so just because I scored a lot doesn’t mean I played good or bad; I think we all need to play better,” Jokic said.
Jokic scored 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists in the Nuggets loss in the season opener. The former MVP was especially outstanding in the Nuggets’ second loss, where he added 41 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
