The Denver Nuggets are preparing for the 2024–25 season, looking to overcome last year’s disappointment, especially with new addition Russell Westbrook. While they haven’t won back-to-back championships, Westbrook’s presence has brought renewed energy to the team. In his eleventh season and fifth with the Nuggets, Aaron Gordon has stepped into a leadership role.

Speaking with Nuggets.com, Gordon said, “I think I’ve matured a lot. I think I’ve settled down… a more consistent worker, a disciplined person, a harder worker.” He spent the summer improving his jump shot, which could be key to the Nuggets’ success.

Aaron Gordon has a lot of respect for Westbrook and the energy he brings. “Just the energy. He’s a hell of a competitor. You want him on your side and I’m glad we got him… Dude is a legend. I’m ready to go to war with him,” Gordon expressed. He is committed to helping Westbrook get that long-sought championship ring, stating, “Doing whatever I can to try and get him a ring and just holding up my end of the bargain so at the end of the day, these guys win too.”

Gordon has built strong chemistry with Nikola Jokić on the court, leading to exciting plays. Last season, he ranked sixth in the league with 171 dunks, showing off his athleticism. “It’s really easy right away… if you know the game and you think the game, it’s so easy to play with Nikola,” he noted.

Gordon also wants to mentor younger players, stressing the importance of hard work outside of team practices. “You can’t just rely on the team to get better… Just work hard as [expletive] off the court before and after practice,” he advised.

He is deeply connected to the Denver community and recently hosted a pop-up event in the RiNo district, which helped strengthen that bond. “It was cool to just invite everyone into my lounge downtown… It’s a great community. They’ve accepted me, and I’m grateful for it,” he shared.

Aaron Gordon’s confidence remains high, and the Nuggets are looking strong for the upcoming season. “We got better… I hate losing [Kentavious Caldwell-Pope] and Jeff Green, but I like our additions,” he said, referring to Westbrook and veteran Dario Šarić. The new season is approaching, and the Nuggets, led by Gordon and fueled by Westbrook’s competitiveness, are set to make a serious push for another championship.
