The Chiefs anticipate scoring a bit more freely in 2024

Patrick Mahomes provokes a surprising reaction from the Chiefs' newest star receiver

It speaks to the greatness of Patrick Mahomes that he was able to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory in Super Bowl LVIII last season with an inconsistent offensive group around him. Mahomes largely performed to his sky-high expectations, but his statistics — including a career-high 14 interceptions — were affected by an underachieving troupe of wideouts. Many times, the Chiefs‘ defense came to the offense’s rescue.

Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid don’t want to have to huff and puff for points this coming season. With help from general manager Brett Veach, the Chiefs’ quarterback-head coach duo stand to benefit from new additions to the receiving corps — which has been bolstered through free agency in addition to the NFL Draft.

Hollywood Brown creates high expectations for the receiver group

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown joined Kansas City on a one-year contract in free agency this spring, following a stint with the Arizona Cardinals. Alongside prized rookie Xavier Worthy, this new-look Chiefs receiver room is primed to impress — and Brown is already loving life with the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.

Brown told reporters at Chiefs training camp that he loves the pace set by Mahomes and Reid, and it has allowed him to come to grips with the Kansas City playbook. With Mahomes’ help, he thinks the new-look receiving corps is primed for a huge season.

Brown himself is coming off a four-touchdown season for the Cardinals, and he is only two years removed from racking up 1,000 yards with Lamar Jackson‘s Baltimore Ravens. He is already bringing the energy — and catching absolute dimes — from Mahomes, sparking plenty of optimism that the Chiefs can make NFL history and win a third consecutive Super Bowl in 2024.
