As Paige Bueckers enters her senior season in college basketball with the UConn Huskies, the projected first pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft suffered her first loss of the season 79-68 to Notre Dame led by Hannah Hidalgo who was a standout contributing 29 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists while Bueckers scored 25 points but did not have a good night from the three point line shooting 0-4. Hidalgo and Notre Dame already beat UConn and Bueckers also beat Juju Watkins and USC this year, so they jumped to No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 and are now contenders until March rolls around.
Bueckers Have Jokes for Former Teammate
The loss prompted Bueckers and other Huskies teammates to take out their anger on former teammate Nika Muhl’s latest post, mocking and commenting on her workout. With Bueckers commenting “Curl those 10s girl” and other teammates commenting “work work don’t stop,” the comments referred to the light weight of the one in the first photo. Muhl, who is Croatian and the all-time leader in assists (689) for the Huskies, was selected by the Seattle Storm with the 14th pick in this year’s draft. Muhl also holds the program records for most assists in a single season (284 in 2022-2023) and in a single game (15 vs. NC State on November 20, 2022).
Her rookie season with the Storm was challenging; she averaged less than 1 point, assists and rebounds in 16 games while averaging 3.6 minutes per game. She struggled with the transition to the professional level, including adjusting to the fast-paced schedule and limited playing time. After her rookie season, she decided to return to Europe to play for Besiktas JK in Turkey, where she unfortunately suffered a serious injury, so this post in the gym shows her recovery and being the professional that she is, she surely has in mind to be better next year than this bad first season in the WNBA.

Paige Bueckers is still in college, but she’s older than Caitlin Clark, and the only freshman to ever win the AP Player of the Year award (2021). At just 23 years old and with four years of collegiate experience, Bueckers has her sights set on winning a national championship before heading to the WNBA, which is always easier said than done. Personally, I don’t think the outcome of this season will change her draft position as a top prospect and her future as a Dallas Wings player.
Injuries have plagued Bueckers from the start. As a freshman, she led UConn to the Final Four and set the school record for assists by a freshman. She missed most of her sophomore season with a left knee injury, but still managed to lead her team to the national championship game, where they lost to South Carolina. Her junior season was cut short by a torn ACL. Bueckers bounced back last season, earning unanimous first-team All-American honors and leading the Huskies to the Final Four, where they lost a close game to Caitlin Clark’s team, 71-69. This season, it looks like the Huskies, along with UCLA, Notre Dame and USC, could be the best Final Four in March, but there’s still a lot of season ahead.

Swift is already planning her involvement in longtime friend Selena Gomez’s wedding.
“Yes, I will be the flower girl,” the pop star commented on the bride-to-be’s Wednesday announcement.
