Sabrina Ionescu entered the WNBA with high expectations. Four years after her arrival, the Liberty won the championship for the first time in franchise history. She and Caitlin Clark joined the league as big-time shooters and one can only imagine how a duo composed of them would fare in the W.
She broke the record for the most 3-pointers made in the 3-point contest history, which prompted the NBA to set up a new contest with her and Curry. This contest could make a return next season with Klay Thompson potentially joining Steph to face Ionescu and an unknown teammate.
The guard was on a roll in the 2024 postseason, helping the Liberty make it to the Finals and winning the title against the Minnesota Lynx in five games. In 38 regular-season games, she averaged 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 39.4% from the field and 33.3% from deep.
Despite hurting her hand in Game 4 of the series, Ionescu didn’t back down until she reached the promised land.
Sabrina Ionescu opens up on experience of playing with Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones
Besides picking her teammate for this hypothetical matchup, Sabrina Ionescu talked about her experience sharing touches with both Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. These are the other two members of the Liberty’s ‘Big Three.’
“I mean, so easy, I’m playing with MVPs. To be able to be on the same team, especially with them being older and have won many championships altogether, it just paved the way for me early on in my career to just be able to learn from them,” Ionescu said. (3:16 mark)
The Liberty had played in five WNBA Finals before this year and their sixth attempt at winning the championship was the lucky one.
