Trevor Lawrence was considered the best quarterback prospect of the 2021 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old former Clemson signal-caller was considered a generational prospect and the best since Patrick Mahomes.

The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him, and to complement him, they decided to bring in former Ohio State Head Coach Urban Meyer. It seemed like a great move to bring in the coach who had a .854 winning percentage in the college game at the time.

However, the move turned out to be a huge bust. Following a 2-11 start to the 2021 NFL regular season, Meyer was fired by the Jags ahead of their week 15 matchup, which they eventually lost to the Houston Texans.

Following the firing of the controversial head coach, NFL fans thought that Lawrence would be able to help the Jags get over the hump. However, after missing the playoffs in 2023 and starting the 2024 season 0-3, fans wonder if Lawrence ruined Meyer’s career.

NFL Fans Are Wondering If Trevor Lawrence Ruined Urban Meyer’s Career

There are many opinions on what the answer could be. One NFL fan brought up the proposition that both the quarterback and his former bench boss are below average, commenting, “The easiest answer is staring us in the face: they both suck.”

While there may be other opinions, it’s not hard to see what the reason was; the team’s 2-11 start with Meyer at the helm and the off-the-field antics. As one fan put it, “Was all that off-the-field stuff.”

An article by ESPN may help to explain the quarterback’s recent struggles, “Lawrence’s 39 interceptions are third most in the league behind Josh Allen’s 47 and Mahomes’ 43 since he entered the league, but he has 59 TD passes (16th in the NFL) while Mahomes (109) and Allen (103) are the only two players in triple digits.”

The article also mentioned that he has been plagued with turnovers, which could be a huge reason why his offense has struggled to score points. While Lawrence may be struggling as of late, his head coach, Doug Pederson, will be on the hot seat if the Jaguars lose their ninth straight game to Houston on Sunday.
