The Texas Longhorns have received a significant update on star quarterback Quinn Ewers, who suffered an abdominal injury that knocked him out of Saturday’s game against the UTSA Roadrunners.
Quinn Ewers was injured in the second quarter and left the game after handing the ball off to running back Quintrevion Wisner. Ewers didn’t return, and highly-touted backup Arch Manning had a near-perfect performance in his place as the Longhorns cruised to a 56-7 victory.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the 21-year-old Ewers is considered “week to week” with an abdominal strain and will likely miss Week 4 against the UL Monroe Warhawks at home next Saturday.
Arch Manning was nine-of-12 for 223 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions to go along with a 67-yard rushing touchdown. Now, Cooper Manning’s son and the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning gets a chance to further showcase his talents:
So it’s not the absolute worst news for the Longhorns. Quinn Ewers avoided a long-term injury, and the Longhorns have a more than adequate backup in Arch Manning to carry the load for now.
Before his injury, Ewers was also near-perfect, with 14 completions on 16 attempts for 185 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. By no means is there a quarterback controversy between Ewers and Manning, but it’s at least comforting for Steve Sarkisian and company that they have a grade-A backup as insurance.
Quinn Ewers Is A Top 2025 NFL Draft QB Prospect
Ewers would have been a first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, but he stunned everybody by opting to go back to college for one more year. But if Ewers puts together another excellent campaign in 2024, he just might end up being the first overall pick in 2025.
Ewers is regarded as one of the top three quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, along with Georgia’s Carson Beck and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. Take your pick as to who you think will go first overall, but Ewers is on his way to being a top-10 pick.
