Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and the Huskies found inspiration from their fans for the last game of 2024 as the No. 7 UConn Huskies cruised to a 67-41 win over Providence on Sunday.
UConn recovered from the 72-70 defeat to the then-No. 7 USC Trojans, their first home defeat of the season, on Dec. 21.
The message circulating through the UConn faithful was clear: “Play with a chip on your shoulder.” This rallying cry resonated with the team, especially stars Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers, who embraced the call for resilience and determination.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, fans spurred on the UConn Huskies.

Paige Bueckers finished with a game-high 23 points while putting up four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sarah Strong contributed 14 points, two steals and two assists to ensure the victory was never in doubt.
The Huskies shot 41.3% from the field and 72.7% from free throws while scoring a staggering 40 points off turnovers.

Paige Bueckers made a statement on Sunday, showcasing a more aggressive style of play in UConn’s victory over Providence.
Following the game, Bueckers reflected on her mindset shift, describing it as a deliberate effort to improve her offensive contributions and inspire the Huskies.
When asked about her conscious decision to shoot more, Bueckers said:
“When you’re sitting at home (over the holidays), you’ve got a lot of time to think,” Bueckers said, “a lot of time to watch film and process what you’ve got to get better at.”
The holiday break provided Bueckers with a chance to reassess her game. With time to review film and analyze her recent performances, she identified areas for improvement, particularly in her offensive assertiveness.
“I’m just trying to take open shots, not over-penetrate when I get any space, be aggressive, look for my shot,” Bueckers said.
Bueckers’ shift in mentality was evident throughout the game as she confidently took advantage of scoring opportunities while also setting up her teammates.
Her aggressive approach not only boosted her performance but also energized the entire team, setting the tone for a cohesive and assertive offensive game.
“That leads to creating for others and just leads to an aggressive mentality that the whole team can embody,” Bueckers added.

Speculation is growing about New York Jets owner Woody Johnson potentially selling the team as the Jets finish out another disastrous season. The Jets entered 2024 with Super Bowl expectations, but Aaron Rodgers and company have been a giant disappointment with a 3-8 record.
According to Bovada, Jeff Bezos is now the betting favorite to purchase the Jets from Johnson and take over as their next owner. Johnson has owned the football organization since 2000.
