Ahead of the event, social media was buzzing with fans calling the Chinese fighter “cringe” for his wild look. It’s not the first time UFC stars have sparked drama—Colby Covington took shots at Leon Edwards’ dad, and Nina Marie went after an MMA guru. It looks like Wang’s Joker stunt is just the latest to grab attention for all the wrong reasons.
Fans have seen fighters like Poatan, who painted his face to honor Brazil’s Indigenous people, so bold makeovers at face-offs aren’t new. However, China’s Wang Cong turned heads with her Joker cosplay, sparking a wave of reactions from fans on the internet. This wasn’t her first time showing up to a face-off in cosplay, but fans labeled it cringe this time. She claimed she would “kill her” opponent and even mimicked the iconic coin toss gesture made famous by Two-Face from DC Comics. This made fans call it cringe.

UFC Macau – Wang Cong vs. Gabriella Fernandes: Preview
Wang Cong is making a name for herself this year. She kicked things off with a dominant win over UFC vet Wu Yanan, impressing on Road to UFC, and sealed the deal with a 62-second TKO of Victoria Leonardo in August. On the flip side, Tamires Fernandes bounced back from two losses to score her first UFC win in June, grinding out a split decision over Carli Judice and showing she’s a force to be reckoned with.
Fernandes holds a 9-3 MMA record but struggles with striking defense and grappling accuracy. Wang Cong, with 4 finishes in 6 wins, is the favorite, making a finish inside the distance the smartest bet for the UFC Macau event. Now that she is setting her sights on Valentina Shevchenko for a rematch, it’ll be interesting to see how quickly she secures a championship fight, especially with her looking unstoppable.
